LABORATORY DIAGNOSTIC FACILITIES

1. Fully automated Haematology Cell Counter (MS4s, Melet Schlosing Lab., USA)
   • Complete blood count (Hb, TEC, PCV, MCV, MCHC, MCH, TLC, DLC, Platelet count)
2. Fully automated random access Clinical Chemistry Analyzer (Em Destiny 180, Erba Diagnostic Mannheim GmbH, Germany)
   • Serum biochemistry – Macro minerals (Ca, P, Mg), LFT (ALT, AST, ALP, GGT, Bilirubin – Total and Direct, Total proteins, Albumin), KFT (Urea, Creatinine), Energy metabolites (Glucose, Triglycerides, Cholesterol)
3. Electrolyte analyzer (Medica EasyLyte Expand Analyzer)
   • Serum electrolytes – Na⁺, K⁺, Cl^-, Ca²⁺
4. Urine analyzer (Laura M, Erba Lachema s.r.o., Czech Republic)
   • Routine examination – pH, specific gravity, protein, glucose, ketones, nitrite, urobilinogen, bilirubin, blood, leucocytes
5. ECL-105 Single channel semi-automated coagulometer –Transasia (Erba)- Clotting Tests such as PT, aPTT, Fibrinogen, Thrombin time can be measured in plasma samples.
6. Facilities for culture examination of bio-samples including a laminar flow cabinet, incubator etc.
   • Bio-samples – Milk, Urine, Feces, Blood
   • Pathogens – Bacterial pathogens of mastitis, enteritis, respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections and septicemia

   • Molecular detection of haemoprotozoan diseases (Multiplex PCR for Theileria annulata, Babesia bovis and Trypanosoma evansi in bovines; Nested PCR for canis in dogs) and enteric pathogens (E. coli, Salmonella spp., canine parvovirus infection, canine distemper) in dogs

10. Real time PCR machine – Facilities for rapid disease diagnosis, monitoring treatment trials and expression studies by performing qPCR
11. Veterinary Specific Portable Meters – Quick and on spot estimation of glucose/β-hydroxy butyrate in whole blood samples
12. Electrical conductivity meter – For measurement of Electrical conductivity of milk for detection of subclinical mastitis in bovines
13. Lactoscan Milk Analyzer and Somatic Cell Counter Combo – Quick analysis of milk composition (fat%, SNF, density, proteins, lactose, water content, salts, pH, conductivity, total solids) and estimation of somatic cell count in milk
14. Compound light microscopes – For microscopic examination of blood smears for haemoparasites, differential cell count; microscopic examination of urine; examination of fecal samples for endo-parasitic ova/cyst etc.

SERVICES OFFERED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF VETERINARY MEDICINE

• Dedicated and specialized faculty is providing services throughout the year to the farmers and pet animal owners during their OPD and Emergency duty hours at Medicine Section of the Department of Veterinary Clinical Complex, LUVAS.
• Meticulous and up-to-date theoretical and practical teaching of Undergraduate students of B.V.Sc &A.H.
• Advanced theoretical and research oriented training is provided by the learned and experienced faculty of the department to the PG and PhD students of the department. The students are also trained on different aspects of veterinary clinical and healthcare diagnostics.
• Extension services are provided to the farmers through various platforms such as Clinical Camps, Krishi Mela, Dairy Farming Trainings, expert lectures, distribution of pamphlets and brochures etc. to the farmers.
