About Department
The Department of Dairy Technology is a vital part of the College of Dairy Science & Technology, offering B.Tech., M.Tech., programs in Dairy Technology. Its mission is to equip students with the latest knowledge and skills required for careers in the dairy, food, and FMCG sectors. The department emphasizes teaching, research, and collaboration with national and international institutions.
The faculty is internationally recognized, with high research scores and citations. Current research focuses on lactose hydrolyzed yoghurt and utilizing novel component of Fox nut for enhancing the stability of dairy products. State-of-the-art research facilities are available for dairy and food product development, by-products utilization, cheese and fermented dairy products, packaging, etc.
The Experimental Dairy Plant (EDP) within the University allows students to gain hands-on experience in milk processing and the production of various dairy products. The college provides campus placements and the faculty encourages the students for competitive exams. The college’s young alumni have achieved notable positions in the dairy industry, academia, and renowned universities worldwide.
Overall, the Department of Dairy Technology at the College of Dairy Science & Technology provides comprehensive education, research opportunities, and industry exposure to empower students for successful careers in the dairy and food sectors.
Dr. Sharanagouda B has been serving as the Head of the Department of Dairy Technology since January 2023. Prior to his role as the department Head, Dr. Sharanagouda also serving as a Professor in the Department of Dairy Technology since Jan 2019. During his tenure, he made significant contributions to the department’s academic and research activities, mentoring students and conducting research in his areas of interest.
Before joining academia, Dr. Sharanagouda gained valuable industry experience, accumulating 10 years of experience in various capacities within the dairy industry. He held positions ranging from Technical Officer to Manager in different industries, including those involved in the production of milk and milk products, yogurt and cheese, ice cream, juices, egg powder plants, and bakery industry both in India and abroad. This industry experience has provided him with a strong practical foundation and a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the dairy sector.
Dr. Sharanagouda’s research interests primarily lie in the field of fermented dairy products, with a focus on spray drying. He is passionate about developing innovative techniques and processes to enhance the quality and value of dairy products. Additionally, he has a keen interest in value-added traditional dairy products, exploring ways to preserve and promote traditional dairy practices.
Dr. Sharanagouda is a member of various professional scientific societies to stay updated with the latest advancements in his field. He is a member of the Indian Dairy Association and the Dairy Technology Society of India, demonstrating his commitment to professional growth and collaboration with fellow experts in the dairy industry.
