About Department

When Haryana Agricultural University came into existence in February 1970, the Department of Pharmacology had a skeleton staff of two Assistant Professors in position. Subsequently Prof. A. Ahmad joined as Professor in 1971 and Dr. B. D. Garg joined as Associate Professor in 1972. Since then the department has been fast developing to achieve excellence. It would not be an exaggeration to mention that the level of teaching, research and expertise in the discipline attained in this department can be rated as second to none of the Dept. of Pharmacology among other Veterinary and Medical Institutions. The faculty consists of a team of well qualified and recognized teachers and scientists.
 
The Department has organised two successful Annual Conferences of Indian Pharmacological Society in 1973 and 1993. Apart from this, one Annual Conference of Indian Pharmacological Society (North zone) was conducted in 1988. Two successful summer institutes were also organised by the department in 1974 and 1987. A UGC sponsored Symposium on "Living in Pesticide- Polluted Environment" was organised in 1977. The department has organized 17th Annual Conference of Indian Society of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology and National Symposium on “Combating Antimicrobial Resistance” from 20-22 December, 2017.

The department has well established laboratories for teaching (Undergraduate & Postgraduate) and research particularly in the field of neuropharmacology, molecular pharmacology, toxicology, pharmacokinetics and ethnopharmacology. The department has attracted a good number of meritorious graduates for post-graduate studies. Many of the students graduated from this department were research fellows of CSIR, ICAR etc. Since 1970, sixty students have graduated with M.V.Sc. and twenty eight with Ph.D. degrees in Vety. Pharmacology/Vety. Pharmacology & Toxicology from this department.
